NarraSift Terms of Service
Effective date: Pending publication
These Terms govern your use of NarraSift, the text-to-audio service operated by NarraSift Digital Voice Infrastructure LLC, a Georgia limited liability company ("NarraSift," "we," "us") at narrasift.com and app.narrasift.com. By creating an account, or by using the free demo, you agree to these Terms, our [Privacy Policy], [Acceptable Use Policy], and [Copyright Policy].
1. What NarraSift does
NarraSift turns lesson text into audio using synthetic voices, with controls for pacing, pauses, and pronunciation. Generated audio can be played in the classroom presenter, downloaded, and (on eligible plans) exported with captions.
The voices are computer-generated. They are not recordings of real people, and audio produced with NarraSift should never be presented as the recorded voice of a real person.
2. Who may use NarraSift
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract. NarraSift accounts are for educators, course creators, and other adults — students never need accounts, and the service is not directed to children. You are responsible for how audio you generate is used with your students or audience.
3. Accounts
You must provide a valid email address and verify it before signing in. Keep your password confidential; you are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at support@narrasift.com if you believe your account has been compromised.
4. Plans, credits, and billing
- Free credits. New verified accounts receive a one-time grant of 30,000 characters.
- Subscriptions. Paid plans (Basic, Plus, Premium) are billed monthly through Stripe at the prices shown on our pricing page. Each plan includes a monthly character allowance that resets at the start of each billing period; unused characters do not roll over.
- What counts. Characters are counted on the lesson text you synthesize. Pause tokens are free, and failed generations are never charged.
- Failed payment. If a renewal payment fails, new audio generation is paused until payment is fixed — but you can always play and download audio you already generated.
- Cancellation. Plans are month to month. You can cancel anytime from the billing portal; your plan remains active until the end of the paid period. Fees are non-refundable except where required by law.
- Price changes. We will give at least 30 days' notice by email before a price change takes effect on your plan.
5. Your content
"Input" is what you provide: lesson text, pronunciations, imported documents and pages, and visuals you upload (slides, diagrams, tables, graphs and other images) to accompany a lesson. "Output" is the audio, captions, and timestamps NarraSift generates from your Input.
You own your Input. You grant us a limited license to host, process, and transmit it solely to operate the service (including sending lesson text to our speech-synthesis provider for the sole purpose of generating your audio).
You own your Output, to the extent we hold any rights in it, subject to your rights in the Input. You may use Output for any lawful purpose, including commercially, on any plan.
You are responsible for your Input. Only submit material you have the right to use — that applies to lesson text and to any visual you upload. Converting someone else's copyrighted work to audio, or uploading someone else's image, without permission may infringe their rights — see the [Copyright Policy]. We do not check whether you hold those rights, and nothing in the service should be read as confirming that you do.
Do not submit student personal information. NarraSift is a tool for preparing lesson material, not a student records system. Please do not paste student names, identification numbers, IEP or 504 content, assessment results, health or behavioural notes, or anything else that identifies an individual student. We do not ask for it, we have no place to put it, and it would be spoken aloud in your audio and written into your captions. If you need to refer to a student, use initials or address them as "you".
6. Acceptable use
Use of NarraSift is subject to the [Acceptable Use Policy], which prohibits, among other things: unlawful content, impersonating a real person's voice or identity, deceptive or fraudulent audio (including robocalls and spam), and abuse of the platform's quotas and security. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate it.
7. Copyright complaints
We respond to copyright complaints and take down infringing material as described in the [Copyright Policy]. Repeat infringers' accounts will be terminated.
8. Suspension and termination
You may close your account at any time from Account & Billing in the app, or by emailing support@narrasift.com. Closing it deletes your lessons and audio permanently and immediately. We may suspend or terminate an account for material breach of these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, for non-payment, or where required by law.
Deleting a project is immediate and permanent. We remove its records and audio files straight away; there is no recovery window, we cannot restore it afterwards, and characters already spent generating that audio are not returned. The app asks you to confirm before this happens. We do not delete your work on any schedule of our own — audio you record is meant to be taught from for years. On account closure, we delete your content permanently, except records we must keep (for example billing and usage records).
8a. Playback insights — what we will never do
When a lesson is played, NarraSift records how the audio was used (where playback reached, what was replayed) and shows you which parts of your lesson were replayed most. We commit to two limits on that feature, and they are terms of this agreement, not settings:
- It will never be used to evaluate you. Your insights are visible only to your account. We will not disclose them to your employer, school, or district, will not aggregate them to compare instructors, and will not build an export for evaluation purposes.
- It will never profile an individual student. Insights describe a lesson, never a listener. There are no student accounts and no student identifiers.
9. Service changes and availability
NarraSift is under active development; features may change. We aim for high availability but the service is provided without uptime guarantees. We may impose reasonable technical limits (for example per-generation character caps and rate limits) to keep the service reliable and affordable for everyone.
10. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE AND ALL OUTPUT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. SYNTHETIC SPEECH MAY CONTAIN MISPRONUNCIATIONS OR ERRORS; REVIEW AUDIO BEFORE CLASSROOM USE.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NEITHER PARTY IS LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS IN ANY 12-MONTH PERIOD IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THAT PERIOD (OR US $50 IF YOU PAID NOTHING). NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED BY LAW.
12. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify us against third-party claims arising from your Input, your use of Output in violation of these Terms, or your breach of the Acceptable Use Policy.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state and federal courts located in Georgia .
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. For material changes we will notify you by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect, and record the policy version you accepted. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
