NarraSift Privacy Policy

This policy explains what NarraSift Digital Voice Infrastructure LLC, a Georgia limited liability company ("NarraSift," "we") collects when you use narrasift.com and app.narrasift.com, and what we do with it.

1. What we collect

Account data. Email address, display name, and a salted password hash (we never store your password in plain text). Email verification status.

Lesson content. The text, sections, pronunciation entries, imported documents/pages, and project settings you create — and the audio and caption files we generate from them.

Billing data. Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We store your plan, subscription status, and a Stripe customer reference. We never see or store your card number.

Usage data. A character ledger (grants, reservations, refunds) that powers your allowance, and generation records (character counts, timings, error codes).

Playback data. When a lesson is played, we record how the audio was used: when playback started and ended, how far through it reached, and which stretches were replayed or slowed down. These records attach to your account, because you are the only person signed in — students never have accounts. We use them to show you which parts of a lesson were replayed most, so you can see where a class struggled. Insights are about the lesson, never about an individual listener, and a lesson's insights stay hidden until it has been played at least five times, so no view can describe a single sitting.

Technical data. IP addresses for rate limiting and abuse prevention; a hashed IP recorded with policy consent; standard server logs. Error reports (Sentry) recording what failed and where — these carry no account identity, email address, or IP, and never your lesson text.

Consent records. The policy version you accepted and when.

2. What we do NOT do

• We do not sell your data or share it for advertising.
• We do not train AI models on your lesson content.
• We do not offer student accounts and do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Students interact with audio that their teacher plays or shares; they never sign in, and there is no student record, profile, or identifier anywhere in NarraSift. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at privacy@narrasift.com and we will delete it.
• We do not profile individual students. Playback data describes a lesson, not a listener. We do not build per-student histories and the product is not designed to make that possible.
• We do not show a teacher's insights to their employer. Playback insights are visible only to the account that made the lesson. They are not shared with administrators, not aggregated for comparison between teachers, and not exportable into any evaluation process.

3. How we use your data

To operate the service (synthesize audio, meter usage, bill subscriptions, send account email such as verification and password reset), to keep it secure (rate limiting, abuse prevention), to improve it (aggregate analytics, error diagnosis), and to meet legal obligations.

We use these providers to run NarraSift; each receives only what its function requires:

5. Retention

• Account and content data: kept while your account is active. We do not delete your lessons or audio on a schedule — a course recorded once is meant to be taught for years.
• Deleted projects: deletion is immediate and permanent. When you delete a project we remove its records and its audio files straight away. There is no recovery window in the app and no way for you or us to restore it afterwards. Characters already spent generating that audio are not returned.
• Backups. We keep encrypted-at-rest backup copies so that a fault on our side cannot destroy a teacher's library. These cover both your stored audio and caption files and a daily copy of our database, which holds your account record, your lesson text, and your usage history. One copy sits with our file-storage provider and a second with a separate backup provider, so that losing one provider cannot lose both. Anything you delete can therefore persist in a backup for up to 7 days afterwards and is then purged automatically. It is not reachable from the app or from your account during that time, and we do not use it to restore anything you have deleted.
• Generated audio download links expire after 24 hours (the files remain in your account until you delete the project).
• On account closure: content is deleted permanently; billing and ledger records are retained as required for tax, accounting, and fraud prevention.
• Rate-limit records: purged within about a day.

6. Security

Traffic is encrypted in transit (TLS). Passwords are hashed with scrypt. Audio files are stored in a private bucket and served only through expiring signed URLs or authenticated, ownership-checked routes. Production data lives in a database separate from development.

7. Your rights

Email privacy@narrasift.com to access, export, or correct your data. You can cancel your subscription in the billing portal, delete individual projects in the app, and close your account yourself under Account & Billing — that deletes your lessons, audio, captions and playback records permanently and immediately.

8. International transfers

Our providers process data primarily in the United States. If you use NarraSift from outside that region, your data will be transferred there.

9. Changes

We will post changes here and, for material changes, notify account holders by email before they take effect.
